An RF module incorporates a complete radio design into a single part. This includes all frequency generation, filtering, modulation, demodulation and matching circuits. It also includes any programming required to drive these circuits. Generally all that is required is power, ground, a data source and an antenna. An RF module is different from an RF Integrated Circuit (or RFIC) in that an RFIC is only a part of the radio and the module is a complete radio design, usually including an RFIC. This removes most of the design burden from the product designer.
