Unique to the LTM4641 are the integrated fault monitors which look for output overvoltage, input overvoltage, input undervoltage, and overtemperature conditions that can threaten the operation of the load: an ASIC, FPGA or microprocessor. All protection features are 100% tested at the factory. In the event of an output overvoltage fault, protection engages by disconnecting the input supply and shorting the output to ground within 500 nanoseconds guaranteed. A second voltage reference is included for the fault monitors providing redundancy. The protection trip thresholds are user adjustable to avoid nuisance fault detection. When a fault is detected, the LTM4641 issues a logic level signal which may be used to initiate an orderly system shutdown sequence. After the fault condition has cleared, normal operation resumes after a user-specified timeout period or a logic level reset signal is received by the LTM4641.
