These two circuits demonstrate how the auxiliary feature, offered in most of Linear Technology’s PD controllers, can be easily implemented. The top circuit shows how the auxiliary is inserted after the LTC4264, with the signature resistor disabled. The bottom circuit shows how the auxiliary is implemented for an isolated load using optocouplers. When an auxiliary supply is used, the controller and MOSFET shut off, giving priority to the auxiliary supply as needed.
