Unlike most synchronous flyback controllers which use self-driven techniques to control the timing of primary and secondary side MOSFETs, Linear Technology’s PoE+ PD controllers implement a well-controlled synchronous rectification technique which allows users to adjust the primary gate delay so that MOSFET timings can be better matched to the application’s exact requirements. The result is maximum converter efficiency and improved cross regulation. Couple this gate control with a low 0.40mA quiescent current, and Linear Technology’s PoE+ PD controller provides an impressive 88% efficiency when including the diode bridge and HotSwap™ FET.
