This slide highlights the differences between batteries and SuperCapacitors. Batteries feature good energy density, have OK power density, and yet exhibit a high ESR (equivalent series resistance) at cold temperatures. In comparison, SuperCaps have OK energy density, good power density, and a low ESR at cold temperatures. Supercaps are limited to 2.5V or 2.75V maximum, and may experience high battery insertion inrush currents.
