One of the challenges of designing high performance data acquisition systems is finding a driver which is capable of achieving the full performance of the analog to digital converter. Many amplifiers capable of such performance require both positive and negative rails and consume more power than the ADC itself. The new LTC6362 is a fully differential amplifier which achieves high precision with very low power consumption. It is suitable for driving 16- and 18-bit ADCs, conditioning sensor signals, converting single ended signals to differential signals, and driving differential lines. The LTC6362 was designed to drive precision 18-bit and 16-bit SAR ADCs while consuming minimal amounts of power. It consumes just 1mA on a single 5V supply, and yet is able to achieve 200µV input offset voltage, 3.9nV/√Hz input referred noise, and 18-bit settling of only 550ns on an 8V peak-to-peak output step. A dedicated shutdown pin lowers power consumption to just 70µA when not in use. Its gain-bandwidth product is 180MHz. Available in both MSOP 8-lead and 3mm x 3mm DFN packages, the LTC6362 is fully specified over the commercial, industrial, and -40°C to 125°C temperature ranges. Together with the LTC2379-18 SAR ADC, performance of 101.2dB SNR, and -108dB THD is achieved.
