The Flash memory in MachXO2 devices is not just for configuration. All MachXO2 devices, except the smallest XO2-256, also provide User Flash Memory, or UFM, which can be used for a variety of applications including initializing the onboard embedded block RAM, storing PROM data or as a general purpose data storage. The UFM can be used just as any other Flash memory would be used. It is a separate Flash sector within the on-chip Flash memory and is organized by pages. The UFM supports up to 100K write cycles and can be accessed through the configuration logic interface using the hardened SPI, I²C, JTAG or Wishbone interfaces. For more information about using the built-in User Flash Memory of MachXO2 devices, download the TN1205 technical note located on the Lattice Semiconductor website.
