Microphone Interfaces Slide 5

The differential MEMS microphone interface has multiple advantages. Firstly, it cancels common mode interference, meaning interference induced on both output channels will be removed by the subtraction. Secondly, the interface allows twice the signal swing of an equivalent conventional analog microphone. This makes it easier to design microphones to handle high sound pressure level (SPL) signals. Lastly, the subtraction of the two output channels cancels even-order distortion terms, producing improved acoustic performance. This allows for lower THD (total harmonic distortion) levels and higher AOP (acoustic overload point) microphones.
