Introduction to Microphones Slide 2

An electret microphone is a specific type of capacitive (also called condenser) microphone where the capacitor is permanently polarized. In Knowles microphones, the backplate carries the electret charge. Incoming sound moves the diaphragm to generate a high impedance signal. An internal circuit converts the signal, to lower the impedance to a usable level.
