There are two different types of metallization when it comes to SMD Film: single metallized and double metallized. The construction of a single metallized film consists of a thin metallized layer represented by the blue line and film paper represented by the white line shown here. The construction of a double metallized consists of the thin metallized layer, film paper and also a layer of polyester carrier (PET) represented by the striped line. The main idea of double metallization is to have more metal in the capacitor to manage more current compared to single layer, but without sacrificing the self healing capability.
