Piezoelectric Actuator Structure
Within the piezoelectric actuator, KEMET uses a unique structure that distinguishes the actuators from other piezoelectric actuator makers. The latter use what is commonly referred to as the conventional structure, using side margins to create insulated areas where no electrode material is printed. This reduces the effective surface area, which often results in more layers being required for the design. These stress concentrations can result in cracks and reduce the life expectancy of the product. KEMET’s unique approach with its plate-through electrode system allows it to print 100% of the layers, and using glass insulators instead of end or side margins enables less stress concentration areas and less tilt on the displacement surface. Thus, these actuators perform with greater efficiency and higher reliability, resulting in higher operation durability.
