The functional block diagram for the ISL28023, the next generation, full featured digital power monitor in development is shown on this slide. It is using the core ISL28022 as the primary channel, with additional features such as an auxiliary channel, an internal temperature sensor, an internal 3.3V voltage regulator, and an 8-bit margin DAC with voltage output. The ISL28023 Vcc can be powered from 3V to 5V, but the I²C module can be powered down to 1.2V to communicate with various I²C protocols. It is PMBus compatible so it will be communicating with Renesas' digital power devices. There are 55 slave addresses available so the user can chain up to 55 ISL28022/23 on a single I²C bus with external clock input so they can all be synchronized to a single clock. Analog comparators with pull-up and push/pull outputs are available to enable user-defined alerts to be generated in nearly real time.
