In order to meet touchless control demands, sensor solutions with advanced functionality and a short time-to-market were needed. However, device developers have struggled with some challenges. The products must face different environmental conditions as well as the individual requirement of various applications. For example, the sensors have to be easy to integrate and should be equipped with user-friendly configuration options. The measuring technology must offer a precise measurement of movement, even in challenging environment conditions or with interferences. The outlines must be very compact so the device can be retrofit into an existing product design. Furthermore, low power usage is necessary, and hidden integration (e.g. behind a housing) must be possible. It should also be ready for high volume production, as well as available at an attractive price. In order to increase the acceptance and integration of touchless devices, sensor experts must meet these requirements in order to improve the usability and functionality of the technology.
