The two common main failure modes involving the DC-Link circuit are: an open circuit condition in the capacitor and, second, a failure in the mechanical relay or the electric switch not operating properly in the circuit. This can create a high current condition; the PTC-ICL device is designed to absorb this energy and cut off the circuit.
