Using the downloadable Excel-based inductor calculator, enter the circuit parameters and the calculator will recommend the optimum part for the SEPIC design. Inputs are entered in the green area of the spreadsheet. The calculation results are shown in the yellow, including the recommended Eaton Coiltronics part number. If a configurable Versa-Pac inductor is recommended, the section on the right tells how to connect the six windings in series and/or parallel to achieve the correct inductance and current rating. The optimum part is the smallest device that will meet the power requirement. Note that using a larger part is possible, but typically expect lower overall converter efficiency when a larger part that is used than is required. This is due to longer wire lengths and having to excite more core material. By using the calculator the best inductor solution is determined.
