Commonly referred to as noise, EMI and RFI are forms of electromagnetic disturbances that are found everywhere. Just about any electromechanical device can create EMI or RFI. Rapidly-changing electrical currents create electromagnetic induction and radiation that can degrade or interrupt the performance of an electronic device. The most common sources of EMI and RFI are power switches, relays, motors, cooling fans, and variable frequency drives.
