The amount of energy in an ESD event is limited, typically lasting a short duration and a rise time less than 1 nanosecond, but with very high voltage potential. These type of ESD events account for 30% of major damages to electronic devices, and protection against these events are critical to inputs and outputs on portable devices such as mobile phones, PDA, GPS, MP3 players, and digital cameras.
