A liquid crystal display (commonly abbreviated LCD) is a thin, flat display device made up of any number of color or monochrome pixels arrayed in front of a light source or reflector. LCD digital panel meters would be the correct choice to make when the display must be read in direct light. Typically LCDs do not get "washed out" when viewed in direct light, but maintain clear visibility. LCDs consume very little power - less than 5mA.
