There are two common types of DC electronic loads: modular and stand-alone. Both forms have their advantages and disadvantages. Modular DC load systems are more flexible and easy to upgrade, offer multiple channels and synchronous loading for high-throughput testing, but can be more costly and complex to operate. Stand-alone DC loads are single channel instruments that can provide a much lower cost per watt, but only operate individually up to its maximum power rating.
