In a MagJack®, the magnetics are shielded, which prevents any RF coupling onto the magnetic wires and provides better EMI attenuation. It is advantageous to keep the traces from the PHY to RJ-45 as short as possible. Traces have a tendency to act like antenna, thereby diminishing a systems EMI performance. Since it is possible to keep trace lengths much shorter with these solutions, the overall system EMI performance is optimized.
