What is an RFID inlay? A UHF RFID inlay consists of an antenna (typically aluminum) that has been die cut or etched. The shape of the antenna is tuned for a specific application. The Integrated Chip (IC) is where data is stored. Avery Dennison utilizes chips from several of the leading IC manufacturers, all adhering to the Gen2 air interface protocol that was discussed earlier. The chip is attached to the antenna using a conductive adhesive and then the chip/antenna assembly is placed on a carrier (typically PET or Paper). The entire assembly is referred to as the inlay. This inlay is then embedded into the finished media product (label, price ticket, durable tag, etc.).
