aMLC based Flash storage devices show a significant performance advantage in terms of endurance and data retention over eMLC and standard MLC based flash storage devices. As shown in the chart here, aMLC boasts a 3k vs. 40k advantage over standard MLC in Program / Erase endurance and a 10k vs. 40k advantage over eMLC in Program / Erase endurance. The aMLC has a 5 times vs. 1 times advantage over standard MLC in data retention and a 5 times vs. 0.25 times advantage over eMLC for data retention. aMLC based storage devices also have a significant advantage in sequential Read/Write performance in Megabits per second. The combination of these advantages in endurance, retention and sequential read and write performance makes aMLC based solutions a logical choice for designers.
