Product List
Most consumer products have some sort of user interface where mechanical push buttons are still the most dominant button type. Although they have their problems, most engineers are very familiar with how they work and how to work around limitations by implementing proper debouncing algorithms and so on. Capacitive buttons are a rather new technology compared to mechanical buttons, and even though Microchip QTouch buttons have been used in commercial products for more than 10 years, it is still perceived as a fairly new technology by many engineers. The advantages of capacitive sensing buttons are many. As the sensor is placed underneath the front panel, the front panel itself can be made out of a single piece of material, making it completely sealed. The sensors can also be designed in any shape, allowing high flexibility and an artistic freedom when designing the User Interface. From a performance point of view, capacitive sensing buttons have a significant advantage as there will be no performance degradation over time. Therefore, a cap sense button has no mechanical wear, and will always have the same response.
