In summary, silicon I.C. temperature sensors all operate on the basic principal that voltage through the base-emitter is proportional to temperature. The main benefit of these devices are linearity and ease of use since no signal conditioning or look-up tables are required. To achieve the maximum accuracy, effective heat transfer is required. Since the GND (ground) pin is normally connected to the substrate on the temperature sensor die, all the device GND pins should be connected to the ground plane of the heat source that is being monitored. These devices are ideal for cold junction compensation, medical, HVAC, and cold chain transport & storage applications.
