ADI’s isoPower products provide up to 500mW of isolated DC power. Integrated into the package is an isolated transformer that is driven from the primary side. On the secondary side, the signal is rectified and then filtered, with the output fed back through the isolation barrier to the primary side to control the transformer driver, resulting in a regulated output. In a discrete DC to DC converter design, to achieve output regulation designers could either use a linear regulator or design their own feedback control circuit to achieve active regulation for high efficiency at light loads, better response to variable loads, and greater output voltage stability.
