Here, the unique offset design of the Lynx™ QD contact array mentioned earlier is shown in detail. The upper left image is a snapshot of the contact array. Coplanar and right-angle connectors can route out of both sides of the connectors. This is made possible by the offset pattern of the contact array and the wide ground contacts. Effectively, designers can route signal vias under the ground contact thereby reducing the number of PCB layers required and making it easier to route from the inner rows of the connector. An additional option is to utilize the contact array as an open pin field where all of the contacts are used for signaling. In an open pin field configuration there is no distinction between ground and signal contacts. In either differential pair or open pin field designs the routing options provided by Lynx QD are available.
