The APM80950 and APM80951 demo boards allow users to drive high brightness LEDs directly from a DC source of 4.5V to 36V. The enable pin’s wide voltage range increases system versatility by not requiring an additional voltage rail in order to activate the part. This is beneficial in applications such as PoE lighting and camera surveillance where a second voltage line is typically not needed. If dimming is a requirement, the demo board has connections for both a PWM signal or an analog voltage to easily change the intensity of the LED. If a PWM signal is not available, the APM80951 offers an internal PWM generator that can be modulated with an analog voltage. At maximum output, the thermal characteristics of the package are demonstrated, and it is notable how little temperature rise occurs. The APM80950 and APM80951 have internal compensation, so there are no compensation capacitors and resistors to tune in order to maintain stability.
