The APM80950 and APM80951 can drive high current LED modules or a series of LEDs in a string. A key feature of the APM80950 and APM80951 is the wide operating voltage range. The Buck topology conveniently steps voltages down in order to accommodate high brightness LED levels, increasing versatility in end applications as well as in LED light arrangements. Allegro prides itself in the ability to provide robust products and these parts are no exception. Survival of pin-to-pin as well as pin-to-ground shorting is inherent in the APM80950 and APM80951. Missing or shorted components are also survivable fault modes. Automatic thermal shutdown protects the device in the event of an overtemperature occurrence. These features protect against device or PCB damage due to defects during manufacturing. Furthermore, it is an important aspect in the overall system failure mode protection in the field. The Buck regulator topology and integrated MOSFET offer optimal system efficiency and reduce energy consumption. With a low power shutdown current of 1µA, the device ensures optimum power conservation when it is in shutdown mode.
