There are four technologies on the market that use a plastic clip to attach a HS (heatsink) to a device. However, ATS maxiGRIP™ and superGRIP™ are the only two technologies that use a combination of a metal spring clip and a plastic frame clip. Since plastic properties change with time and temperature, the use of a stainless steel spring clip compensates for the changes in the plastic thus delivering a steady normal force to the heat sink as the plastic changes its characteristics with time. Furthermore, ATS’ technology makes access to the LID or the Die (in the case of the flip chip packages) readily available since the frame clip resides in the periphery of the package rather than on its top.
