OSLON® Black IR SFH 4718A
ams OSRAM's SFH 4718A IR Illumination LED is now available with a much more directional lens design
ams OSRAM expands its established OSLON Black portfolio for infrared illumination with the addition of the SFH 4718A, an infrared LED with a narrower beam angle of ±25°, which means illumination units for camera systems with a medium capture range no longer require secondary optics. All OSLON IRs are based on the same package, so the emitters are easy to combine and because the footprint remains identical, an existing design can also be easily upgraded with a variant.
The OSLON Black portfolio offers a wide selection for the most varied of infrared-based applications, taking in four power classes, three wavelengths (810 nm, 850 nm, and 940 nm), three beam angles (±25°, ±45°, and ±75°), and dedicated devices for fast switching currents up to 5 A and high efficacy up to 2 A during constant operation. There are versions with 1.5 V forward voltage for higher efficacy and 3 V for higher output power per device. Dedicated devices with optimized technology are recommended for frame capture with very short but energetic light flashes up to 10 W optical output from a single LED.
The SFH4718A is particularly suited for camera systems with a medium capture range. The illumination unit can be designed without additional secondary optics, making the overall system more compact and cost-effective.
Adding infrared illumination ensures that the camera delivers high-quality images regardless of the prevailing light conditions. The SFH 4718A provides an excellent radiant intensity of 730 W/sr. At a current of 1 A, the IRED offers an optical output of 0.8 W. Its 850 nm wavelength is barely discernible by humans but lies firmly within the sensitivity range of the camera sensors.
