There are 4 design features in the X2Y that result in lower ESL. First, the current patch is shorter in a X2Y cap, in addition, the input current is separated into two currents to ground. The third design benefit is the opposing current flow internal to the device that cancels the mutual inductance. The fourth benefit is the X2Y design creates a via mount conductive to cancellation and allows multiple vias to lower inductance.
