Würth Elektronik Midcom offers an entire line of RJ45 connectors with integrated magnetics, which feature magnetics configurations designed to meet the IEEE802.3 standard. A typical magnetics configuration for RJ45 connectors is shown. This is a standard type of configuration found in the industry and has a number of distinct features and advantages. A typical LAN design has only two magnetics per pair, making it a cost effective solution. With a center tap on the transformer PHY side, the part can be connected to ground through a capacitor, providing a low impedance path for noise. The other side of the transformer features a center tap on the side of the transformer, which provides another low impedance path to ground to common mode noise through the Bob Smith termination. Additionally, the common mode choke is on the line side of the transformer, which attenuates any noise that makes it to the line side through transformer interwinding capacitance, terminations to noisy nodes, or ground loops.
