General Purpose DC-DC Converters Slide 4

In selecting the correct DC/DC converter, the engineer must first establish what input voltage would need to be converted. This is called the nominal input voltage. If the nominal input voltage is very stable, the engineer may use a narrow input voltage. However, if the input voltage is fluctuating, or a large variance in the input voltage is expected, a much wider range of input voltage will be necessary. All of Kaga Electronics/Volgen units have what is known in the industry as an “ultra wide input voltage range” or “4:1 input ratio”. This means, for example, at a nominal input voltage of 12 VDC, the voltage range that the power supply can accept is 9 VDC – 36 VDC, or at a nominal input voltage of 24 VDC, the acceptable input voltage range is 18 – 75 VDC.
