The entire production process of the PTS is highly controlled and is established to ensure reproducibility. The process begins with a homogeneous film of platinum being deposited on a high grade ceramic body. The platinum sensor elements are then covered by a protective coating designed for electrical, mechanical, and climatic protection. In the end the terminations receive a final pure tin on nickel plating. The quality of the components is verified through extensive tests that are performed on 100% of the individual sensors. The PTS is tested in accordance with IEC 60751 and IEC 60068. From an application perspective, the PTS is specified to be solderable within two years post-production or re-qualification. The most common automatic SMD assembly methods are compatible with the PTS including wave, reflow, or vapor phase processes. The pure tin plating provides compatibility with lead based and lead free soldering processes.
