NIST defines three types of sanitization for SSDs: Clear, Purge, and Destroy. The "Clear“ method employs logical techniques to sanitize data in all user-addressable storage locations, which protects against simple non-invasive data recovery techniques. This method is applied through the standard read and write commands. The "Purge” method applies physical or logical techniques that disable target data recovery. "Destroy“ Disables data recovery and subsequently renders the media unusable. All of these sanitization methods will permanently erase data.
