The lower power and compatibility with current releases of Linux allow the Zebra to be incorporated into applications that were previously unachievable with many x86-based embedded computers. Shown here are some examples of the types of potential customer projects that utilize the power of Zebra’s rich feature set: The first application is a Mining Seismic Monitor that can be deployed in a variety of environments, including down a mine shaft. This application benefits from Zebra’s extended temperature performance, small size, and low power consumption. The next example is a Smart Parking system. The extended temperature provided by the Zebra allows this system to work in very cold applications where commercial temperature Arm®-based products failed. The availability of the Yocto Linux distribution allows for code porting from the prior platform to the VersaLogic Zebra. Lastly is an application for security video monitoring. This application requires Zebra’s HDMI port, support for H.264 video, and its low power draw. Zebra’s microSD socket and long life are also important for this project.
