Keep symmetric placement (and layout) for both sense resistors shown here (red) while placing them close to the driver IC. This avoids additional trace resistance leading to lower current settings. Also, parasitic inductivity on sense resistor traces should be avoided, as it degrades microstep performance and increases chopper noise. Each sense resistor should use at least two vias to the ground plane. Place filter capacitors (green) as close as possible near the driver‘s supply pins. The 4.7 µF ceramic capacitor on 5 VOUT should be placed with its GND return going directly to the GNDA pin, using as short and as thick connections as possible. The motor supply voltage pins should be decoupled by ceramic capacitors. Additional electrolytic capacitors help by reducing electrical noise and avoid swing over, destroying the circuit in lab setups, where the power supply may suddenly be connected or disconnected. The switching motor coil outputs have a high dV/dt. Thus capacitive stray into high resistive signals can occur, if the motor traces are near other traces over longer distances.
