In order to provide electrical isolation between the MCU and Ethernet network, a 1 to 1 transformer is required. For improved EMI performance, use magnetics with integrated common mode choke. Don’t forget to refer to the MCU datasheet to find the list of part numbers for approved magnetic options. Also, review the reference schematics to see how to connect the center tap of the transformer, decoupling caps and provide Bob Smith termination. This slide will now take a moment to discuss the RJ45 connector. For better EMI/EMC performance, use a shielded RJ45 connector and connect shield to the chassis ground.
