All TI switches have specific applications. The key purposes of a switch are to switch on or off a signal that is being carried, to source a signal to multiple destinations, or connect multiple sources to a single destination. This is needed for each type of signal chain. For example, routing an audio signal from a codec to a loudspeaker or headphone, or to mute all sound. Similar principles apply to USB, LAN and other switches described on this slide. In addition to these basic functions, TI offers specialized devices that integrate advanced functionality, such as headset type detection and battery charge detection, also shown on this slide.
