Actively controlling the power on sequence is critical for many modern multi-rail systems. Many processors require a specific power-on sequence and startup conditions for their power pins. Violating these conditions could result in power-on failures and even damage to the processor. Also, multi-rail systems can have parasitic connections between the different supply rails. Starting up the rails in the wrong sequence could turn on these parasitic paths with unpredictable results. Properly applying supply sequencing with soft-start minimizes the power-on demand on the input bus, reducing any glitches that may trigger fault detection circuits during startup. The LM20xxx devices provide integrated features to deal with a wide variety of sequencing concerns.
