Receptacles come in two main designs, TE Connectivity’s AMP-Latch novo receptacles, and PCB transition connectors, or DIP plugs. Novo receptacles are available in grey or black, with either 15 or 30 micro inches of gold flash over palladium nickel plating. Strain reliefs and other accessories as discussed later, are available for sale separately, or the entire solution can be purchased as a kit. PCB transition connectors, or DIP plugs are the second type of AMP-Latch receptacle. This is an IDC connector that can either provide permanent direct-attachment to the printed circuit board, or a separable interface when mated to a DIP socket. Novo receptacles and DIP plugs utilize insulation displacement technology, with a tuning fork design to provide a reliable, economical, and gas tight ribbon cable connection. IDC technology prevents corrosion and degradation from normal environmental exposures, and allows all conductors to be terminated simultaneously, allowing for labor cost savings in both full production and field termination operations.
