There has been much anecdotal evidence that the presence of silicone oils, which can arise from traditional silicone based gap fillers being used under certain demanding applications, can be detrimental. As a result, non-Silicone products have quickly established themselves as good alternatives to silicone where issues of extractables and outgassing were an issue. This was particularly relevant in the automotive and medical markets. Traditionally non-silicone gap fillers have suffered from poor performance and are generally hard, due to their complex chemistry. This often precludes their use for many applications where a degree of tolerance needs to be removed. L37-3L has been developed to give the best of both worlds, exceptionally low silicone bleed combined with softness. This is achieved using a chemically stripped resin so that there are very few unreacted monomers present for out-gassing or bleed. These products are often found employed in the automotive industry, in optical electronic applications, and anywhere where a hard drive or such device is used. L37-3L gives exceptional thermal performance and softness which are two of the main criteria an engineer should consider when selecting a gap filler for critical applications.
