Now this training module will take a closer look at the STM32’s new connectivity peripherals. First, the products embed an Ethernet 10/100 MAC, with hardware support for IEEE 1588 Precise Time Protocol, and a dedicated DMA controller. These blocks make communication with a central system or with other devices via Ethernet simple and economical. The connection to the Ethernet PHY is done using the MII and RMII interface present on all packages of 64 and 100 pins. The connectivity line also embeds a USB 2.0 full speed, On-the-Go controller with an embedded OTG PHY. The USB 2.0 OTG makes it possible to connect standard USB mass storage devices, a USB keyboard, mouse or other USB device to an STM32-based system. The USB OTG can also act as a USB device for connection to a PC or to other dual role USB devices. The dual CAN 2.0B modules makes the STM32 connectivity line a turnkey solution to implement a CAN gateway. Also since dual CAN and USB peripherals can be used simultaneously, the STM32 is the perfect fit to connect a computer or USB device to CAN networks.
