Micro-stepping a stepping motor might help resolve vibration and noise issues occurring with the motor. Micro-stepping is when one increases the resolution of the motor. For example, take a 2-phase stepping motor with a 1.8 degree per step or 200 steps per revolution and one half step it. Which then turns into 0.9 degrees per step, or 400 steps per revolution. This increases the resolution of the motor which can help with noise issues. Depending on the drive used in the application, the customer can micro-step a motor 2, 4, 8, 16, or more divisions.
