The three types of isolation are functional, basic, and reinforced. Functional and basic isolation are not suitable for safety critical applications and only offer a single fault protection. Reinforced isolation has double fault protection and is required for medical applications. The input and output windings are separated by at least two separate physical barriers, allowing isolation voltages up to 10 kV_DC/1 second.
