USB 3 Overview Slide 9

The definition of a full-duplex system is that it allows communication in two directions, just as half-duplex does, but both sides can transmit simultaneously. Just like in the previous example of how half-duplex works, “walkie-talkies” will be used to demonstrate how a full-duplex system works. With a Full-Duplex system, both sides can be communicating at once without the worry of collisions. This allows a full-duplex system to waste no time in transmitting data because it does not have to wait for the other side to finish transmitting.
