While the 802.3af standard is sufficient for most applications, demand for more power increased and so in 2005 the IEEE formed a working group, of which Phihong was a founding member, to draft a new standard increasing the power requirements to 25.95W. The 802.3at Standard also known as PoE Plus was ratified in September 2009 and is ideal for applications including Security Cameras with pan, tilt and zoom functions and IP phones with streaming video displays.
