In looking at how to lay out industrial networks, how fiber can be used and the different types, shown here is a good example of how, depending on the environment and the distance, there are many different types of fiber that can be run from an MDC (Micro Data Center) or a data center for the plant floor. The MDC can be connected to the plant floor through various fiber optic types of connections to Zone enclosures. One might see a higher data rate type of fiber, for example an OM2 or 3, from the MDC to the zone. Depending on the type of environment there are different types of fiber cables such as armored and non-armored. A point to keep in mind is that both an armored and dielectric fiber eliminate the need for Innerduct to protect the fiber.
