There are three main features of the P4SP connector. First and foremost is the integration of power and signal pins in one connector. By having both power and signal pins, customers are able to reduce total number of the pins significantly. In the example shown here, a standard P4S series connector is using 34 signal pins connected in series to transfer 5A of power. By replacing this connector with the P4SP type, only 10 pins are needed to carry the 5A of current reducing the overall size of the connector by 24 pins. It is also noteworthy to observe that the current capability of even the signal pins of the P4SP has also increased to 0.5A where the previous P4S connector was only rated for 0.3A/contact. Since all pins on this connector are of the same shape and size, the customer has the freedom of design to assign any pin to carry signal, power, or connect to ground as well.
