Shown here is the N01S830HA, 1 Mbit, low-power Serial SRAM Memory used in a motor controller system. The function of the Serial SRAM in this application is scratch pad memory for the Digital Signal Processor. This provides a much more cost effective solution rather than getting a larger Digital Signal Processor or Microcontroller. A larger Digital Signal Processor would require more power, take more space, and cost more. The SRAM allows for more flexibility in the design, and if more memory is needed, a larger Serial SRAM device can be quickly added. This results in a smaller time to market and a reduced system cost. Notice that in this Motor Control System solution, onsemi also offers parts for the motor driver, the input amplifier, FPGA/ASCI Power, and the I/O interface.
